My Graduation Song – For High Flyer

The song I chose was “Put your records on” by Corinne Bailey Rae. I chose this song because in the lyrics there are words and phrases which include “I hope you get your dreams” and it is mostly about changing which is what going from reception to year 7 is all about. And is also a great bit of text to go with my school photos from when I was in kidney to being 13.
It is a great song that I really, like along with a lot of Corinne Bailey Rae’s other songs. She is a great singer and writes all of her own songs which are all very sentimental and which are about her own life.

Angus Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging Review for homework

The story is told through the journal of a teenage girl named Georgia Nicolson. Georgia is growing up in England with her best friend Jas and the rest of the Ace Gang, a group of best friends who share secrets, have sleepovers and talk about boys. She lives with her mother, father, her little sister Libby and her half Scottish Wildcat, Angus, who the family found on a small family holiday to Scotland. Georgia falls for a boy named Robbie. After taking snogging (kissing) lessons from Peter Drey, a supposed kissing expert, Georgia finally wins Robbie over and the two of them become a couple.

This book is great for girls to readwho are in there teens.its a really good book because a lot or teenage girls could probably relate to what Georgia writes in her diary. Iwould definitely recommend the book (and the rest of the series) to some one who was interested in buying it.

New Moon Book Review

New Moon is the second book in the Twilight series of four, by Stephenie Meyer. In my opinion New Moon is the best book of the series, and even though it feachers less of Edward the main character, it involves quite alot of the supporting character from Twilight (the first book) Jacob Black.

My review:

Bella has been going out with her vampire boyfriend Edward for quite a while now, and has been more than happy. The only thing that worries her is him refusing (angrily) about the idea of turning her into a vampire like him. As the day of her eighteenth birthday approaches, she feels less than happy because she is now older than Edward, who will never age past seventeen.

To celebrate her birthday Edwards sister Alice, Bella’s best friend, throws her a small birthday party at Edward’s house. But when Bella opens a present and cuts her self with the paper, by accident, it sends Edwards brother jasper (who has least control when it comes to human blood) to go a tad insane with hunger. This seems to make the incident much worse than what it already was.

Edward suddenly becomes more distant towards to Bella and finally he tells her that he and his family are leaving Forks, to never return, and he no longer wants to see her.

Edward is Bella’s whole world and his abandonment sends her into a deep depression. Her whole life falls apart and as she becomes withdrawn from the world, she soon loses most of her friends becoming even more isolated and lonely.

When she does something dangerous she starts hallucinating and thinks she can hear Edward telling her not to do anything stupid and to be more careful.  This leads to a whole new range of interests for Bella including learning to ride a motorbike and cliff diving because she feels that he is still with her at those times.  Her old friend Jacob Black becomes her partner in crime, fixing up her motorbike for her and teaching her to ride it.  Although the pain of Edward’s departure never leaves Bella, Jacob soon becomes her best friend and he helps to fill some of the holes in her empty life.

Jacob himself is no ordinary boy, and soon Bella discovers that part of his Quileute heritage is to be cursed.  Certain members of the tribe turn into something that has this raw hatred towards vampires.  Werewolves and vampires are natural enemies and the dislike runs deep on both sides.

Alice returns to Forks and although she brings no news of Edward with her, her extraordinary gift of being able to see the future soon tells her that Edward is heading on a path of self destruction that only Bella can advert.  But will Bella be there to stop the tragedy in time?

Book Review Blog Post 2 – ‘…Startled by his furry shorts!’

Startled By His Furry Shorts is only the latest book (number seven) in a fabulously hilarious series, Confessions of George Nicholson, by Louise Rennison. In book number six, we left Georgia after she asked the “Italian Stallion” Masimo to actually be her boyfriend instead of going out with her and other girls (like useless, nerdy, stupid Wet Lindsay, a member of the school Hitler Youth), and he said he needed time to think it over. Dave the Laugh also (maybe) loves her. And then there’s Robbie, living in Kiwi-a-gogo land who she still hears from sometimes.

In book number seven, Georgia’s life is a mess. She’s got to distract herself from her disastrous love life! She’s got a few distractions, too. One distraction is the play rehearsals for Macbeth (aka MacUseless), in which they do improvised fire juggling. Another is her (very, very insane) family: younger sister Libby who puts makeup on a statue of Jesus and renames him Sandra, two insane cats named Angus and Gordy, a father who wears leather pants, a mother who thinks she is a teenager, a bald uncle who likes Abba’s Dancing Queen, a grandfather with a girlfriend who knits balaclavas without eye holes….Clearly, Georgia’s entire family is insane. As are her friends. Rosie and Sven are planning a Viking wedding for Rosie’s twenty-first birthday in five and a half years’ time. Jas and Tom are still hunting for interesting lizards.

Basically, Georgia’s life is insane. Startled By His Furry Shorts, the account of Georgia’s latest adventures, is hilarious, a definite must-read, as expected by fans of the first six Confessions Of Georgia Nicholson. This book is absolutely MARVELOUS. Or marvy, as Georgia and her friends would say. This book will have you laughing hysterically. As in, laughing until your sides hurt and it will have readers rolling on the floor laughing, and craving more!

Book Review Blog Post – Igraine The Brave

For my High Flyer work I have to write a blog post about a book that I have read. the book that I’m choosing to review is ‘Igraine The Brave’ by Cornelia Funke. In my opinion this is one of the best books I have ever read. there is over 200 pages, so for those people who like a thick, exciting and magical book about a 12 year old girl and her cat – this is the book for you! :)

An adventure is what Igraine wishes for most in the world – and on her twelfth birthday she finds one!

Everyone at Castle Pimpernel is looking forward to Igraine’s birthday. But when her magical present goes wrong and her parents turn into pigs, it’s up to Igraine to put things right – even if that means facing giants, three-headed dragons and a particularly Spiky Knight.

This is a book I would highly rekommend anyone to buy. Once you take a look, you cant put it down! And that’s something I can guarantee ;)

Teach Your Parents

For homework this fortnight, L.A 21 and I had to talk to our parents about this terms High Flyers. I discussed it with my mum and this is what she had to say:

My mum said that she knows I can do it and the tasks are very easy. Even though I didn’t get one last term, she still wants me to get the rest signed off and completed. She also said not to leave everything to the last minute, because that’s a bad habit and that in high school getting bad habits wouldn’t be the best idea.

I agree with her and I think she has some very good and fair points.

Migration Museum

On Tuesday the 4Th of August L.A 21 and myself went to the Migration Museum. We went to the Migration Museum because our latest inquiry unit, which is: “Why is the world coming to Adelaide?”

At the museum we all got put into groups and once we got to this activity room each group sat at a different table. On each table there was either a suitecase  or a box. In the boxes/suitcases there was more than 5 different things someone would take on a trip or when they move somewhere else such as: photos, cooking utensils, blankets, money and legal forms.

My group was focusing on a woman from Italy named Riva who migrated from Italy to Australia withher two daughters. The reason for her migrateing is because her brother and husband moved to Australia for a job working on a Farm in Berry, hahndorf and she wanted to be withthem. The woman takingus through the steps of our task was named Pat and she had told us that Riva is still alive and living with her family at the age of 70 or over… I cant really remember what her exact age is at the moment but its somewhere around that age.

It was a fun excursion, playing detective, and I learnt new things about migration i did not know before.

Reading – Reflective Writing

At the moment I am reading a book called Myths and Legends of the Desert. This is my response to the question which character would you like as a friend? Why? Give supporting reasons to clarify your choice.

I would want to be friends with Ra, the god of the sun because he is also the god of the gods. In the book he is described as a god with the head of a hawk and with the body of a man. I would like to be friends with this particular god because in the book he is said to be the protector of all of Egypt and of his friends. He has also done numerous favours for his friends and has never asked for anything in return. He is described as the nicest god and the most liked. All of the reasons I have listed make me interested in him (and with what I have read) I also am glad that, that character is part of my PRP so that I get to research him more and learn more about him, considering how it ties in with my project. Metaphors

In class we have been learning about metaphors, and the difference between a metaphor and a simile.

The difference between the two is that a metaphor is comparing something to something else, for example:

The giant’s steps were thunder or, he was a lion in battle.

In that sentence, it’s comparing, or really it’s more like telling you, that the steps of the giant did sound like thunder.

A simile looks more like this:

He was a white as snow, or, was as slow as a snail.

In class we had to write this metaphor:

In the grey evening

I see a long green serpent

With its tail in the dahlias

It lies in loops across the grass

And drinks softly at the faucet

I can hear it swallow.

Beatrice Janosco

And draw a picture to match each sentence. Most of the class got a bit confused. A metaphor is telling you what it looks like, but still comparing. So basically it isn’t really a serpent, it’s a hose, and its swallowing the water so that the flowers can be watered. I was one of the confused ones :)

Personal Reaserch Projects

Ms. Paladino has recently told the class that this term we will all be presenting a P.R.P.

A P.R.P is when each student has to choose a different topic, [e.g Ancient Egypt] research what they have chosen as much as they can using books and Internet and then present it in any way they want.

I had a little trouble choosing my topic but I came to a final decision of Ancient Egyptian Mythology. :D There’s alto of information to research, but I’d rather have alto of things to research rather than not enough.

I chose this topic because I wanted to do something about the Gods and mummification, and because I’m focusing on Mythology I can also reasetrch about how it offected the Egyptions daily life.

I’m going to present it on either a poster or a PowerPoint presentation. I’ll probably decide later on which one I’m going to do, but I’m thinking more PowerPoint than poster.
